Udon Thani 2023

It has been a while since I have written here, as a matter of fact all my writing has suffered. Life was getting in the way. I was back in Thailand, in a northern city called Udon Thani. I had just left Jasmine my Thai girlfriend of three years at Khon Kaen and I was having trouble moving on. I would be here for five days then I was going to Kamala Beach in Phuket.

While in Udon, I went into a nearby restaurant with my laptop. I intended to eat, sit alone, and do some work to keep my mind occupied. As I approached the restaurant, I saw a group of girls sitting together. One of them stood up as I approached and followed me to my table, she was young and very beautiful. She smiled at me and took my order.

For the next hour she saw to my every need. When my beer ran out, she was quick to get me another. She even came over one time and just asked me if everything was ok. Her smile was disarming. When I finished my meal, she cleaned up and brought me the bill. I paid her and she returned with the change. Then she just stood there looking at me. I could see it in her eyes, she did not want me to go. She wanted to sit down with me. I asked her to sit with me. What a wonderful, charming beautiful girl she was. I felt very comfortable with her.

We had a couple of drinks and I even thought about taking her back to my room, but emotionally I knew I could not handle it. I bid her goodnight and she asked me if I would come back tomorrow. I said I would.

I returned the next evening and she sat with me all night and we talked. I asked her how old she was. She was twenty-six. Far too young for me, but who does not dream of having a beautiful young woman beside you and this one would turn heads. I want you to come back for me, she said, when I told her I was leaving on the plane for Phuket the next day. I told her I would not promise anything, but if I came back, I would come looking for her.

I sat at the gate in Udon Thani airport. I had been here many times before. So much had happened in my life. Sure, there was happiness, joy, and great sex, but you cannot avoid real life. There was always some pain, anguish, heartache, and tears along the way.  Where was I heading? The plane was boarding. I stood up and made my way down the aisle to an uncertain future.

2024

It was with some trepidation that I left the plane at Phuket International Airport. The muggy heat soon had me perspiring. I made my way slowly along the grey carpeted glassed-in corridor which led to immigration. Slowly, because my right hip joint was giving me some angst. A trip to x-ray and the doctors back home confirmed my worst fears. Arthritis. The pain at times was excruciating.

Once through immigration I made my way downstairs and paid for a taxi to Kamala Beach. With my receipt I proceeded along to exit five and walked outside feeling the clinging heat as my clothes clung to my body. It was raining. I showed the attendant my receipt and he hailed my taxi. As we pulled out into the mainstream of traffic on the highway I sighed and looked around at the all too familiar sights. Once, I would have been excited, been bursting with joy to be back in the land of smiles, but not this time.

In under an hour, around ten thirty, I pulled up at my hotel, the Sungthong Resort, a place where I had stayed before. The rooms were always clean and tidy and they had a balcony overlooking the pool. Changing into my shorts I made my way to the nearest bar. It was called the Broomstick. I intended to exorcise some demons.

The bar was shaped as a square and was raised a metre or so off the ground thus I had to climb some steps to reach the actual bar. I cast my eyes over the girls. There were some very beautiful young women here, which was unusual because the high season was over and the girls usually move on or go home when there are no customers. There were only two men in the bar and about eight women. I approached a stunningly beautiful young woman and purchased her a drink as we introduced ourselves. She wore a white skirt to mid-thigh that revealed a pair of long slender shapely legs. A narrow black lacy top bared her flat stomach and shoulders. Her skin was white and she could have passed for a European. Her face was small and rather innocent looking, but she was very pretty.

A girl with her looks should not be here in this back water of Kamala Beach, she was model material, the type of woman that any man would be proud of, but she was caught up in the system. A cultural system that might eventually destroy her.

Regardless, this girl was just the sort of distraction I needed. Stunningly beautiful and sexually she was great, but there were no real feelings there. Feelings that can only come from the heart. It was sheer lust.

The next morning, I went to the local bakery for breakfast of fried eggs on toast and bacon washed down with coffee and orange juice. Over the years I had eaten here many times. There were so many memories here in Kamala Beach. I paid the bill and then went for a walk. There was some discomfort in my hip so I went to the pharmacy for some pain killers. These along with the warmer temperatures would, I hoped, ease the pain.

As I walked out of the pharmacy someone called out to me. At first, I did not recognise the girl sitting on the motorbike as she was dressed in a long red skirt and white top. I was used to seeing her in far less at the Aussie pub. It was Kek. She smiled at me, the sort of smile that would melt a man’s heart. Kek is like that brilliant ray of sunshine that appears mystically and like a wisp of magic in the middle of a dark and gloomy thunderstorm. She was the wild card in my life.
